With every deposit received, Vancouver Solar & Electrical (VSE) automatically apply for your system to qualify for Net-Metering credits. We ensure your system is sized correctly in order to meet BC Hydro's new approval requirements.
​
Net metering is designed for residential and commercial customers who wish to connect a small electricity generating unit to the BC Hydro distribution system.
As a net metering customer, when you generate more electricity than you consume, you receive a credit of 10 cents (per exported kWh of Solar energy) to your account The credit is applied against your future consumption.
Generating units up to 100 kW in capacity that utilize a clean or renewable resource are eligible to participate in the Net Metering Program.
Even if your out at work and not using your solar energy, you still get paid for it by selling it back to the grid.
When you sell to BCHydro, you get a bill credit towards your future electricity use.
If you still have an excess credit at your anniversary date of joining the program, BCHydro pay you for the electricity at the rate of 9.99 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh).

Under the Capital Cost Allowance (CCA) regime in the income tax system, Class 43.2 of Schedule II to the Income Tax Regulations provides accelerated CCA (50 per cent per year on a declining balance basis) for specified clean energy generation and conservation equipment. Providing accelerated CCA in this context is an explicit exception to the general practice of setting CCA rates based on the useful life of assets. Accelerated CCA provides a financial benefit by deferring taxation.
This incentive for investment is premised on the environmental benefits of low-emission or no-emission energy generation equipment.
Here is an example of how this works:
If your income profits are below $500,000 and your solar array is installed for $200,000 you get to write-off 50% per year on a declining basis.

Finished write off on a $200,000 solar array is $27,531.25 if profits are under $500,000.
If your income profits are over $500,000 and your solar array is installed for $200,000 your tax bracket goes to 26%.
